In der Gruppenausstellung REGRET (2017) der Animationsklasse in Kooperation mit dem Museum für Sepulkralkultur entstand REGRET, bestehend aus drei Teilen.

Untersuchungen über die Verwandtheit zwischen mir und meines kürzlich verstorbenen Vaters. Wir wussten voneinander, standen aber kaum im Austausch.

In drei Installationen mit Fokus auf Fotografie, Animation und Sound zeigte ich, welche Gemeinsamkeiten wir dennoch teilten.
Seltene gemeinsame Momente kollidieren mit versäumten Dialogen.


In the group exhibition REGRET (2017) by the animation class in cooperation with the Museum für Sepulkralkultur, REGRET was created, consisting of three parts.

Investigations into the kinship between me and my recently deceased father. We knew of each other, but we hardly exchange.

In three installations with a focus on photography, animation and sound, I investigated which commonalities we nevertheless shared.

Aus dem Fundus meines Vaters stammt ein analoges finnisches Wählscheibentelefon. Ich selbst habe ein analoges deutsches Wählscheibentelefon. Die Telefone stehen nebeneinander. Sie werden über Arduino angesteuert, das in bestimmten Intervallen eins der beiden Telefone klingeln lässt. Falls ein Ausstellungsbesucher dran gehen sollte, hört das Klingeln auf und man hört nichts.

From my father’s collection comes an analog Finnish dial telephone. I myself have an analog German dial telephone. The telephones stand side by side. They are controlled by Arduino, which makes one of the two phones ring in certain intervals. If an exhibition visitor should answer, the ringing stops and you don’t hear anything.

Mein Vater hatte Vogelbeobachten zum Hobby. Er hatte eine beträchtliche Sammlung aus Zeitungsausschnitten. Vor allem von wildlebenden Vögeln. Aus dieser Sammlung entstand das animierte Video, das man nur über ein Fernrohr betrachten konnte. So fern und doch so nah.


Distance (telescope and animation)

My father had bird watching as a hobby. He had a considerable collection of newspaper cuttings. Especially of wild birds. From this collection came the animated video that could only be viewed through a telescope.
So far and yet so close.

Zwei Diaprojektoren mit Rundmagazinen sind so aufgestellt, dass deren Projektionen aneinander knapp überschneiden. Sie laufen jeder für sich im eigenen Takt.
Die linke Projektor zeigt eine Auswahl aus dem Leben meines verstorbenen Vaters, der ebenso gern wie ich fotografierte. Der rechte Projektor zeigt eine Auswahl an Dias von mir. Die Erkenntlichkeit der Momentaufnahmen ist erschwert durch die rohe Mauer.

Interference (two round magazine slide projectors)

Two slide projectors with round magazines are set up in such a way that their projections just overlap each other. They each run in their own beat.
The left projector shows a selection from the life of my late father, who loved photography as much as I do. The right projector shows a selection of slides of me. The recognizability of the snapshots is complicated by the rough wall.
